Web Publishing – Design & Code Manager The client is a multi-channel retailer and you will be working in its website publishing and merchandising team. One year fixed term contract, salary 50K. The role – ‘Web Publishing – Design & Code Manager' Specifically, you will be working as part of the client's Change Programme – a major business transformation project underway to re-launch the client's Direct website and multichannel business. This role is a key role in the content publishing and merchandising team that has been established to get this site to live – you will accountable for managing workflow, ensuring the quality of assets & code and of course, getting the content published on time! Once live, it's envisaged you'll continue in the role for a ‘warranty period' after which you'll be involved with transitioning the site to our existing publishing team – it's highly likely you'd stay with us well beyond launch as a member of this team however, for now, the role is offered as a fixed term contract given it's project nature. The publishing team will be based in both the UK and India and comprise of designers, coders and ATG ‘merchandisers' – organized people who will work within ATG, Interwoven and our ticketing system to build out our site and manage it once live. As this is a brand new site you'll be part of the broader business team that owns the ‘front end' of the site and all the ecommerce systems and tools used to merchandise, publish and sell on the site. They are a team of 20+ enthusiastic agile product owners, content merchandisers, information architects and designers – we all come from a mix of backgrounds and fit nicely between stereotypes of marketing and IT! They are a happy team and this is an important management role within it.

This role will best suit an individual who thrives and smiles under pressure, is well organised, pragmatic, can manage issues, decisions and stakeholders and most importantly, puts the customers first. You need to be the type of person that loves improving processes – having a passion for great websites and bringing them to life is obviously a must! The position will be based at the Head Office in North London. Free parking is available, they are connected to London Kings Cross with a fast service (c. 25mins) and our offices include gym, canteen, petrol and dry cleaning services.

Key role accountabilities Reporting to the Senior Web Publishing Manager, design & code responsibilities will include:

  • Putting the customers first – above all else, it's their job to ensure the site we build and maintain delivers an excellent customer experience. While the role is primarily one of managing workflow, quality and organisation, it's key you make good customer focused decisions.
  • Be an expert in website design & coding – understand and be able to use design and coding software to create customer focused assets and pages. Find creative solutions to support customer journeys.
  • Accountable for management & development of a team of designers & coders – The team will be responsible for producing content and code for the website. The responsibilities will include managing design & code.
  • Develop concepts for seasonal events – working with the corporate marketing team and understanding the publishing tool's capabilities to deliver cross channel brand continuity & outstanding user experience. 
  • Being a consult & brand guardian – for the creative process for daily / weekly updates, ensuring that designed content is inline with our online brand standards. 
  • Be a champion for change – ability to manage change in processes and improve ways of working. 
  • Relationship management – ensuring that all stakeholders are managed & communicated with. Having the ability to build relationships with other functions within a fast paced retail environment.
  • Accountable for managing the workflow of content changes – using our ticketing system to assign content change requests to the correct member of the team.
  • Understand SEO and the requirements to ensure all elements are optimised – by ensuring elements are named correctly & meta data is correctly associated to content on the site & URLs are optimised.
  • Have a good understanding of web analytics – ensuring that the web analytics package and tracking of pages is considered when developing design & code.
  • Play a key role in the implementation and continuing development of the website on their new platform. You will be an important voice in our development and testing cycles, making sure the systems work is they expect.

Technical on behalf of the business and customers. You will have experience some/all of the following aspects of web design and development:

  • Design – Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, with the ability to manipulate imagery, & copy to produce outstanding optimised web content. Ability to identify the best way to produce quality content & an eye for great design. 
  • Coding – Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash and Actionscript in an ecommerce environment. With the ability to problem solve & find innovative solutions to deliver excellent cross-browser customer experience. 
  • Accessibility – Advance knowledge of accessibility guidelines & best practices to ensure the optimum user experience for all. 
  • CMS - Hands on experience of managing content online using a CMS package, scheduling and publishing content changes, ideally in an eCommerce environment.
  • ATG - Experience with Business Control Centre (BCC) or other ATG business products, including Search and Personalisation, would be a distinct advantage. We will be using version 9.1
  • Web Analytics – Knowledge of web analytics and Omniture, with an understanding of how to use the analysis to determine best practice. 
  • Project Management – Ability to manage projects and ensure that they are delivered on time.
  • Understand the publishing tool - Building knowledge for all future publishing and merchandising concepts for the platform.
  • Quality Control – Ensuring content is of the highest quality, before it is handed over to be published on the live site. Ensuring there is traceability for all projects published on the website.
  • Online marketing – SEO, affiliates, multivariate testing, ecoupons, triggered campaign email. 
  • While not actively ‘managing the project' you will be a natural planner looking ahead, raising issues, and meeting deadlines.
  • Your written and verbal communication skills must be second to none – structured, flexible and clear. Key Skills/ Experience and Qualifications required 2:1 Degree At least four years professional work experience in website design and coding and/or online publishing, in an ecommerce environment. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential
